Autumn weekends are perfect for walks in the forest.  It looks absolutely beautiful as all the leaves turn orange and red, and it isn’t super muddy yet.  It’s usually a comfortable temperature for walking; not too hot or cold, and when you get home you’ll have earned a nice hot drink and slice of cake.

Hornbeam trail, epping forest walk

The Hornbeam trail is one of my favourite routes.  It’s easy to get to, clearly marked and covers quite a varied terrain.

You can start the trail at any point.  I usually begin at waterworks wood (it’s closest to my house) and follow from there.

If you’re feeling lazy you can stop off at The Eagle Toby Carvery near Eagle Pond for food and drink.  If you’re feeling energetic you can continue across Green Man roundabout to Bush Wood and on to Wanstead Park.
