Last week I talked about common causes of pain during cycling and how to prevent them.  As well as ensuring your bike fits well and riding with good posture it is really important to stretch regularly – preferably after each ride.

neck-and-shoulder-stretches

Start with your neck and shoulders as described above.  Remember to do both sides!

back-and-hip-stretches

Then move on to your low back and hips.  Again, remember to do both sides.  I recommend repeating each stretch 3 times.

wrist-stretches

Finish by gently stretching your wrists and forearms.

Voila!  You should feel much stretchier and more flexible.

If you are still suffering despite stretching and fitting your bike, you should seek professional help from your GP, physio or osteopath.  Call 020 8520 5268 to make an appointment for osteopathy.
